Firm Foundation – Noval

Matthew 7: 24 “Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. 25 The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.

I see a large area of rocks, boulders on the edge of the water, like at Peggy’s Cove in  Nova Scotia.

It’s good to have a solid foundation under your feet, under your house.  When I was wrapping up My Sermon on the mount, I spoke of the wise man who hears My words and responds to them.  He’s like a builder who chooses solid rock for a foundation.

Build on the solid rock of My salvation-grace, humility, forgiveness, holiness, servanthood, thankfulness, brokenness, repentance, the fear of the Lord.

Worship.  Hospitality.  Generosity. Wisdom.  Self-control. Discipline.

Above all is love.  First of all, My love for you, put on full display at the Cross.  Then, love in you, love through you, love around you, love from you.

Love is  the foundation of everything.  Love created the world, time and space.  Love created man.  Love ran after him and redeemed him from the Fall.  Love is the lifeblood of healthy marriages, healthy families, healthy churches and communities and nations.

Activity without love is pointless.

Wisdom without love is arrogance.

Truth without love is poisonous.

Relationships without love define hell..

Love is the fullness of Who I am.  There is no peace without love.  There is no hope without love. There is no true joy without love.

Make love your aim.  “Is this loving?” is the most critically important question you can ask yourself in evaluating any activity, any proposed course of action. Let love be the solid rock foundation of everything you are and everything you do.

  1. Amen about God’s love being the foundation upon which to build our bodies as temples of Him in Christ.
Many man-made made teachings have more pleasant teachings about freedom, tolerance, brotherhood; they might even have twisted versions of love, which is really lust or self-interest, like claiming to love others because of looks, wealth, same interests, but without God’s love in Christ which is forgiving and helpful to put our sins to death, all man-made teachings fail, wither and burn away, as branches cut off from the true vine which is Lord Jesus Christ.
